Depression is a heavy burden, one that can feel impossible to escape. The usual solutions offered to rid depression are therapy, medication (the worst one so far), and exercise (the best one so far) — but I believe that the best way to rid depression is pretty simple: find something you love and are somewhat good at, and get busy with it — do it again and again until you forget that you were ever depressed.
The first few times sadness may still linger, but if you persist (only a few do) — if you keep doing what you love day after day, then instead of seeing yourself as someone who is depressed, you start off seeing yourself as an artist of your craft.
Of course, this isn't an instant fix. It takes a lotta effort, both mental and physical, to push yourself when you don't feel like doing anything at all, but the secret is to just start — no matter how small it is — and never give up. This, I believe, is the best way to rid oneself of depression. Not by fighting it head-on, but by drowning it in purpose until it disappears.
